Behind the Asanas: Psychology, Neuroscience and Embodiment

With Shilah Sarkissian and Dr. Leanne Whitney

Behind the Asanas is a 50-hour 5-module online course exploring the intersections between yoga, psychology, neuroscience and embodiment.

In these uncharted and challenging times where uncertainty and change is ever present, coming together as a community to explore our own transformative and healing process in a safe space provides us the opportunity to learn, grow, regulate and ground. Once grounded, we can then become solution-oriented towards re-imagining our lives and the communities in which we live.

As these profound shifts move us individually, communally and globally, understanding the relationship between science and consciousness leads us into a deeper, more expansive and more authentic place as an embodied yoga practitioner and/or teacher.

This course aims to assist practitioners in unveiling the mysteries of why and how yoga works from the perspective of cutting edge science and neurobiology while embracing and honoring the essence of human consciousness that cannot be put into words.

Some of the things you will explore in this course:

  • Deepen your understanding of yoga science

  • Discover the places where Western psychology and yoga psychology intersect

  • Explore cutting edge research in neuroscience

  • Expand your resilience toolkit

  • Enhance perception

  • Find solutions to how we might better live our lives

  • Learn how to access the energy and feeling centers of your body

  • Learn how to listen to and dialogue with your body

  • Explore the limitations of each science as they stand on their own and learn how to honor and integrate the places where they intersect for a deeper understanding of your own wholeness.

  • Gain tools to help you explore your own awareness in new ways on a daily basis
